The _Economist_, 24-30 Nov. 01 provides a generally favorable review of
Richard Davenport-Hines, _The Pursuit of Oblivion: A Global History of
Narcotics, 1500-2000_ (Weidenfeld & Nicolson). The anonymous reviewer says
that the book "barely glances at" the 16th and 17th centuries. Presumably
Davenport-Hines overlaps a good deal with the recent book by David Courtwright.
