Dear ATHG list members,

As a new subscriber to the list, may I introduce myself? I am a medical
librarian whose hobby is medical biography and bibliography. My main area of
interest is early Victorian doctors.

Two of my current projects are biographies of doctors CBM Syder (from
London) and John Singleton (from Dublin), both of whom came to Victoria in
1850, both of whom were notable temperance advocates, and both of whom
started temperance dispensaries.

Which leads to my question:

Does anyone know of any information about the history of temperance
dispensaries in the UK up to about 1850?

Best wishes to all for the New Year. I am looking forward to some
stimulating discussion on the list.

Yours Sincerely,

Stephen Due,
Chief Librarian
