        I notice from the printed program of the annual
conference of the Society for Historians of the Early American
Republic, to be held in Nashville, TN, on 18-21 July 1996, that
Scott C. Martin of Bowling Green State University
will be presenting a paper on "Engendering Temperance: Women
and Drinking in the Early National Era," at a 19 July session
on "Women in the Public Arena."
