My name is Sarah Lewis and I am the Regional Voter Protection Coordinator for Butler County and Hamilton County for the Ohio Democratic Party.  I am also an alumna of Miami University, Class of 1995 (Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Major with a Spanish Minor).  

We are recruiting people to be poll observers on Election Day and I was wondering if any of your members, fellow students or faculty would be interested in volunteering.  Observers are volunteers for the Ohio Democratic Party who act as poll monitors to make sure that the law is followed. As an observer, we will train you and assign you to a polling place so that you can troubleshoot and report problems to us on Election Day.  We ask for about 8 hours of your time (or, ideally, your entire day) on Election Day. 

I was an observer in 2008 and it was a very rewarding experience.  As an observer, I made sure that people's right to vote was protected and that those who were eligible to vote had the opportunity to vote a regular ballot and not a provisional ballot that is counted 10 days after the election (if at all).
