Position Available: Assistant/Associate Professor – Elementary Science
Education with a focus in K-16 Environmental Science
One or more appointments are anticipated in each of the following areas at
the Assistant Professor level with the possibility of Associate Professor
for exceptional candidates and in rare cases, Professor. Those seeking
senior levels must have a strong record of external funding.
Faculty and staff in the Department of Teaching and Learning pursue studies
and issues that affect education in the local community and beyond, as well
as the nature of pedagogy and learning and cultural diversity. The faculty’s
research has helped the college establish deep connections within the
surrounding community through its work in curriculum development,
institutes, mathematics and science teachers and school reform.

Position Description
A strong science education background with a focus in environmental science
is preferred. In addition to a research and teaching identity grounded in
the discipline of science education, this position’s faculty teaching
responsibilities will include interdisciplinary environmental education
courses which lead to an endorsement in environmental education.
Minimum Qualifications (as appropriate to level – entry, advanced, senior):
• Doctoral degree in Science Education (outstanding ABD candidates will be
considered)
• Experiences focused on Environmental Science
• Demonstrated competence in teaching in PreK-12 schools
• Demonstrated excellence or potential in scholarly research
Preferred Qualifications (as appropriate to level – entry, advanced,
senior):
• Demonstrated successful teaching experience in teacher preparation
programs
• Experience supporting accreditation processes such as SACS and NCATE.
• Evidence of or strong potential for grant writing and grant-funded
research
Salary: Competitive, based upon qualifications and experience.
Appointment: 10-month with the strong possibility of summer teaching.
Beginning Date: August, 2011, pending final budgetary approval.
