Sidney,
The problem is you can't apply Critical update checks at all to Windows
2003, XP Media Edition or Tablet edition unless you apply the check to
Windows_All. This means a check that will successfully work against an
XP flavor OS, doesn't work on 2000 or 98/me boxes. While this may not be
a problem in your environment, it is for us.
For an AV rule, you can only apply the check XP/2k & 98/ME if you're
using the new AV rules. Granted, you could customize a pr_nav rule to
hit these additional OS versions, but it would be up to the admin to
maintain the rules and you would lose a great deal of functionality, ie
defs newer than the rule would fail, you'd only be supporting 3 AV
vendors, etc.
If there's something I'm overlooking when it comes to rule deployment,
please let me know.
Simon

Can you guys explain the situation a little better? Just trying to see
if
it will truly affect my customers. We require users to have Windows
2000+
and all of our rules (including AV) is in our Windows All. The AV
rules
are adjustable for the Windows_All so I don't see exactly where the
problem is if you assume the Windows_ALL is something other than
98/ME.

ETA on Added OS Detection
All,
Today (Friday Aug 11) is the infamous move-in weekend for us. I know
it's early for us, but I'm a little alarmed at how many XP Media
Center
Edition PCs are out there. Over the summer I only saw 10-15%. As of
this
email, we've only had about 280 new users login, however of those
users,
68 of them have had Windows XP MCE. That's almost 25% of my users...
not
being checked for AV/Crits. If this trend continues I'll have almost
675
users running who knows that AV/Crits roaming the network.
When can we expect a fix for this?
Simon
