Subject: Re: SNMP for the Clean Access Server?

Sure-

1. Log into your CAS as root

2. Run /usr/bin/snmpconf -g basic_setup

3. Follow the prompts and it will guide you through a basic SNMP
setup. I use this setup to provide CPU, Load, Interface Stats, Disk
usage (once you tell it which partition to monitor) and memory usage
using the built in templates in Cacti. If you are trying to get more
extensive data out of it let me know and I'll see if i can dig up
some docs.

4. After you run through that script you will have a file in the
directory you ran snmpconf called snmpd.conf copy that file into the /

usr/share/snmp directory

5. At this point you can just run /usr/sbin/snmpd and it will fork
to the background and start responding to requests.

6. On most RedHat systems you would run the snmp agent at boot by
playing with /etc/init.d scripts. The snmpd script was stripped out
by Cisco/Perfigo when they pared down the RedHat install. So the
"quick and dirty" method is to add it to the /etc/rc.local file which

us executed after all of the "proper" starup scripts. I'm not a vi
fan but that's the only text editor i could find installed on the CAS

so use that to add a line saying /usr/sbin/snmpd anywhere in the file.

****DISCLAIMER**** This is not a Cisco supported procedure. If they
add support for SNMP in the Web GUI it may break this or the GUI
support may not work until you undo the above procedure. This is a
hack! I have no clue what effect it will have on different hardware/
software configurations. I will be happy to answer any questions but

I take no responsibility for it breaking a production system. YOU
HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Subject: CAS SNMP

Can a CAS be monitored via SNMP? I know of the CAM configuration, but
nothing specific to the CAS.

I'll be very embarrassed if I missed the obvious here...

Thanks,
