Amusing citation, in light of the piece in the current ish of Magnet which
quotes one Mayfly as burbling forth thusly:

"We're definitely a pop band, but we're not power pop," insists Price.
"That's one little critical tag that we've gotten stuck with that I hate,
because it's such an effete style of music. (It's) such a silly genre. It's
always like a three-piece, a power trio of guys in suits jumping around,
bopping around. It's kind of distasteful."

Mr. Dan DeLuca obviously doesn't understand.  ;)

"The Pity List" tops the honor roll of fuzzy-guitar power-pop bands that
flew under the radar in 2000.

As with most power-poppers for whom melody matters most of all, the Chapel
Hill quartet fronted by Matthew McMichaels and Matthew Long wears its
multigenerational influences proudly, the Beatles, Big Star and the dB's
among them.  Faves are "Florida and the Radio" and "Sodium Penathol" (which
the self-aware singer wishes he had "because I can't be trusted") but this
"List" is deliciously infectious.
