For the first couple months I had the new album I just didn't listen to it.
I don't know why, I guess it just didn't reach out and grab me like their
past work did. Then I saw them play on Conan, and something finally
clicked. I don't know what it was, but I really sat down and started to
listen. I really love the album now (even "Adjective Song", though there's
something about the way Doug sings the "adjectives" that bothers me). It
guess seems like I'm getting around to this topic a little late, especially
since it was discussed on the list so thoroughly. Oh well!

I don't think it's too big of a stylistic departure musically. I
definitely agree with the point made in the recently mentioned review that
the feel of the album is a little more relaxed. It seems to me that the
band was willing to take a few more risks. Maybe that's because it was
more of an in-house kind of production between The Connells and Tim Harper.
Lyrically, I have the impression that the guys weren't pushing themselves
terribly hard. I know someone will take offense to that statement, but I
hear a lot of repeated lines within some of the songs.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

John
