>I was under the impression that Mike finished Law School. Is he just short
of graduation or did he not take the Bar?

I'm not sure how far away from graduating he was when the band began to
take off, but unless he's been taking night classes since the release of the
New Boy EP he can't have finished yet.
I few of the other interesting moments from that show, I was there for
soundcheck and got to hear them do their rendition of "Living in the Past".
They didn't play it in the show, so I just wrote it off as a novelty until
it suddenly reappeared as Track 4. In the period of time after soundcheck
and before the show, I had to go to my Film & Society class on the local
community campus, the film was "City of Hope" by John Sayles. After I
returned I found out that Mike was a bit of a John Sayles fan...I should have
tried to haul him along. Most of the tunes the band performed that night
were off the "Fun & Games" album, which is cool because that is the album I
brought along to try and get signed. (Eventually everyone did sign
it...except for the elusive keyboardist.) After the show I finally got to
find out how to spell Peele's name. (A matter of some contention among the
people who print the liner notes...look closely and you'll see what I mean.)
I also asked about that ending vocal bit in "What Do You Want?" (It turns
out it was the words "Hand Jive" being repeated over and over again.) I also
got a complete explanation of what the song was about (Completely different
than what I originally believed), and how and when it was written. If you
ever get an opprotunity, ask George about it. (For an even stranger twist,
ask John from the New Jersey band "Tiny Lights" about a little song off their
first album called "G. Does The Limbo".)
Enough rambling...I couldn't find the "green" photocopied sheet, but I
did find the "orange" photocopied sheet. There were 10 shirts at the time
this was mailed (October 1993), with one more added in November. They are:

Shirt A: Picture of the band (or sillouettes...it's not a very good
photocopy) on the front, the names of the band members on the back.
Shirt B: The Connells on the front in a big clump of boxes, and a photo of
someone I can't recognize on the back.
Shirt C: Fun & Games album cover on the front, album name on the back.
Shirt D: One Simple Word album cover on the front, album name on the back.
 (This one is White)
Shirt E: One Simple Word album cover on the front, album name on the back.
 (This one is Blue)
Shirt F: What could be a witch, a man with a large head (The man from shirt
B?) and Gumby??? on the front, the band name on the back.
Shirt G: The Connells with a big North Carolina postmark on the front. (I
like this one best).
Shirt H: Black LONG SLEEVE t-shirt (isn't that a contradiction?) with a big
"C" in the corner.
Shirt I: Band photo on front, William Shakespeare on the back (or is that
Frances Bacon?)
Shirt J: Ring Shirt you all seem to own...comes in Black, White, or
Burgandy.
Shirt K: Just like shirt H but with short sleeves and a pocket.
Shirt L: Not a shirt at all...Tartan Plaid Flannel Boxer Shorts.
Shirt M: Obligatory Royal Blue Corduroy Baseball-Type Cap.

All of the actual shirts A-K are $13 (that includes shipping). The only
exception is Shirt H which costs $17. They come in Large and Xtra-Large.
The Boxers are also $13 and come in Medium (34-36) and Large (38-40) -- So
I guess 37's are out of luck.
   The Cap is $12.

The Miscellaneous shirt offered up in November is a spiral looking thing
(Blue, Turquoise and Green) with the Band name on it (Black). And an eclipse
(Purple and Green) on the back. The short sleeve verson is $15, the long
sleeve is $17.

Try sending an S.A.S.E. to The Connells, 400 West Morgan Street, Suite 200,
Raleigh, NC, 27603 to get a more up to date listing, or just make out a check
to "Connells Music Inc." and try your luck (Same address).
