Subject: This Friday -- Peter Stallybrass' lecture on Fetishism and Funerals
Dear All,
On Friday, December 4 CMRS will host the third lecture in our 2009-2010 series "Mementos, Keepsakes and Tokens": Peter Stallybrass (UPenn) will lecture on "Fetishism and Funerals."
Abstract: How were the aristocratic dead memorialized in the Renaissance and what were the relations between genealogy, gender, clothing and memory at funerals? How could the nakedness of death be overcome? This lecture will focus mainly on Hamlet to explore these questions and to analyze the relations between persons and things in early modern England.
The lecture will take place in Science and Engineering Library, Room 090, at 2.30pm.
We look forward to seeing you there.
