In class Tuesday, we talked about the presence of ones characteristics present on the stage in the
forms of other people. In Dr. Faustus a good and bad angel appear on stage and try to persuade
Faustus to follow their habits and way of life. His virtues and vices were represented as people who
were helping Faustus along with his decision he has to make. Faustus' Ideal Ego is his view of himself
as a boring doctor and his Ego Ideal is him wanting to be an alchemist and study the dark arts. This
is a decision that is very troublesome for Faustus which is why he needs the help of characters on
stage such as the angels, who are his characteristics, taking on human form.
