JOB ANNOUCEMENT - HOTEL WORKERS UNION, RESEARCH ANALYSTS/STRATEGIC CAMPAIGNERS
SAN FRANCISCO, LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO, SAN DIEGO, CLEVELAND, DC AND OTHER CITIES

The Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union (HERE)
Research Department is currently recruiting full-time research/campaign staff
to participate in organizing and bargaining campaigns to win justice and
better treatment for low wage, largely immigrant hotel, food service, and
gaming workers throughout the United States and Canada.

Positions with the union's growing Research Department are currently
available in various cities including: SAN FRANCISCO, LOS ANGELES, CLEVELAND,
WASHINGTON DC, PHILADELPHIA, CHICAGO, BOSTON, MIAMI, NEW HAVEN, and SAN
DIEGO.  All of these are new positions. See below for more details.  New

HERE research analysts are responsible for conducting in-depth research and
for helping to develop and implement strategic campaigns in support of the
Union's organizing and bargaining campaigns.

Depending upon location, positions may be with the International Union or
with Local Unions. Openings are for senior or junior research analysts
depending on the specific staffing needs in each location.  Some positions
may require substantial travel.  While additional qualifications may apply to
some locations, the qualifications for all positions include:

* Strong demonstrated commitment to labor/social justice organizing;
* Demonstrated ability to research, strategize and implement plans around
specific issues/campaigns;
* Significant work or volunteer experience with progressive/activist
organizations;
* Excellent writing skills and communications skills
* Ability to handle multiple projects and tight deadlines;
* Ease with working in a team environment;
* College degree in liberal arts, social science, economics, urban planning
or business.
* Some investigative research experience, including industry, corporate or
issue research;
* Familiarity with basic financial concepts and/or analysis preferred;

Current HERE researchers have worked in the past as community & union
organizers, urban planners, journalists, teachers, and researchers elsewhere.

commensurate with experience; starting salary range is generally mid-20s to
mid-30s for new hires, depending upon location and experience, with regular

CLEVELAND:  Research analyst with HERE Locals 10 and 84 (Toledo) for hotel
and food service organizing and bargaining.  Some travel within Ohio.  New

LOS ANGELES:  Senior research analyst, to direct campaigns and ultimately
oversee research staff on major organizing efforts in hotels and other
industries in Los Angeles area.  New position.  Available immediately.

LOS ANGELES: Research analyst with HERE International Union to assist in
campaigns to organize workers at Indian casinos. New position.  Available
immediately.

MIAMI: Research analyst with HERE Local 355 for hotel and food service
organizing and bargaining. New position. Available immediately.

CHICAGO:  Research Analyst with HERE Local 1 for hotel, food, service, and

BOSTON:  Research Analyst or Senior Research Analyst with HERE Local 26 to do
research and campaigns related to new hotel development and organizing
efforts in hotels and other industries in Boston area, and potnetially to
direct campaigns and oversee research staff in these areas.  New position.

NEW HAVEN CT:  Research Analyst with HERE Locals 34 and 35 for hospital

SAN DIEGO: Research analyst with HERE Locals 30 for hotel and food service

SAN FRANCISCO: Temporary (6 month) research analyst position with HERE Local
2 to assist with contract and other campaigns. Ability to relocate after 6
