Congratulations to all involved in the establishment of The Dr. Cheryl
Burgan Evans Graduate Conference on Multicultural Research. It is indeed a
wonderful opportunity for scholars of color at Miami University to present
their scholarship at a conference of their peers. I am pleased to learn that
the conference is named for a stellar advocate and exemplar of graduate
education at Miami University--Cheryl Burgan Evans. The Dr. Cheryl Burgan
Evans Graduate Conference on Multicultural Research conference will surely
become a highlight of many students’ academic tenure at Miami University.

It is great to see the idea of presenting graduate and professional students
scholarship come to fruition at the Miami University Oxford campus. The
idea for a symposium of graduate scholarship was discussed in great detail
by the GSA Executive Board in 1999, but was not actualized. Graduate school
is an excellent time to engage in professional development, ideally one will
receive thoughtful critique and encouragement from graduate student
colleagues and faculty. Good Luck to all the conference participants.
