Thanks, Bric, for the update.
I have appreciated that periodic updates from this
listserv, and am sorry too hear that it eventually
will be closing down.

In the meantime, and coicidentally with receiving this message,
I have just been compiling a list of web resources for a
recent consulting inquiry regarding "learning organizations,"
and thought I would post it to you now, as well, perhaps as a
lead for possible "next steps" both for members of this list,
and for you personally/professionally.

One item may be of particular interest to list members who
would like to continue any discussions/conversations related
to management and executive development. I would encourage
them all to check out the Community Intelligence Lab as a
wonderful forum for exchanging ideas.

I hope these resources will be helpful to you and others
on this list in connecting with other folks for continued
dialogue about, and exploration of, learning organization
and management/executive development issues.

With our best wishes,
Metta Zetty and Gary Kimble

One of the most important recent developments in the
"best practices" of developing "learning organizations" is
the exploration of "Communities of Practice." In this vein,
I would recommend the following 2 sites.

*****
The Community Intelligence Lab [CoIL] is a wonderful,
open forum for exchanging ideas with like-minded folks --
rich resources, and some very high calibre individuals
are participating in the CoIL conferences.
Highly recommended!

Community Intelligence Lab

Check out their 2 interactive, on-line conferences:
*  "Workplace Communities"
How do we experience and create community
        at the workplace?
*  "CoIL Cafe" exploring
        How to evolve organizations into
intelligent organisms?
-- and --
* "Knowledge Garden" (including Communities of Practice)
* "Flying Carpet" (including The Web of High Play)
* "Caucus Tech Support" for "How To" info on on-line
        conferencing

Peter and Trudy are leaders in the exloration of communities
of learning and practice on the web, and recently conducted
a fascinating experiment in the development of an on-line
"community of learning, inquiry and practice" which is
described in their report below.

Another important on-line link, and excellent opportunity
to dialogue with those of like mind, is the MetaNet. Their
home page includes lots of great resources (links), and
their conferencing software is the same as that is currently
used in the CoIL lab. This site includes both:
        * a public community, with lots of free access info
                and 10 public conferences, and
        * a membership page, as well.

The following 2 sites provide very good "next step" options,
tools and actual "how-to" strategies when it comes to
implementing some of the theoretical and conceptual ideas
inherent in developing a learning organization.

*****
Open Space is a unique, self-organizing approach to implementing
organizational change and, based on my experience, is one of
the best ways of truly encouraging the development of the learning
organization. Open Space can be used in both small and large
organizations, in virtual or real time, and it has been used widely
around the world. [If you would like to discuss and/or explore this
process further, please do not hesitate to let me know. Open Space
represents an important part of my own consulting and facilitation
practice, and my partner and I have an email link on the OSI web-page.]

*****
Real Time Strategic Change is another important process model
(much more highly structured than Open Space) that is ideally
suited to business process redesign, one of the important out-growths
of developing a learning organization. Robert "Jake" Jacobs is
the author of the book *Real Time Strategic Change* and is a
protege of Kathleen Dannemiller who originally developed the
conceptual framework for this approach to large-scale organizational
change. Kathleen currently describes her work as "whole scale
change." Jake's web page is a subscription page, but has
good free access info as well.

Another "hot" source for current info is FAST COMPANY magazine.
I, myself, am not fond of either the title of the magazine
or the "fast" emphasis they put in all their publications,
but since it is a "happening" publication, you might want
to check it out.
