Ocean, the batch operations component of the Digital OpenVMS cluster
in Oxford, MiaVX1, has suffered what appears to be a hardware failure,
possibly involving its power supply. As a result, Ocean is currently
offline and the following services it hosts are unavailable:
ACQUIRE disk space
Batch services (including Gaus)
Batch jobs including nightly update of the electronic Directory (PHonebook)
BITNET access for the entire University
(including BITNET e-mail and interactive file transfer and messaging)
Paging service via electronic mail
Miami Computing & Information Services (MCIS) has contacted Digital
Equipment Corporation, and Digital maintenance personnel will arrive on
campus first thing Tuesday morning, 28 November 1995. MCIS Technical
Support hope to have Ocean back online sometime late Tuesday morning, if
possible.
MCIS regrets inconvenience caused by this service interruption.
