Dear Eric, et al,

I'm not against it, per se. (Are you saying this is Lit's first choice?!!) If so, much of my problem evaporates--IF we can also get--PRIMARILY, and more importantly--a settled line of some sort in Fiction, Lecturer, Assist Prof, whatever...and this hire search doesn't mess that up, as Margaret expressed concern about. An 18th C with CW component is highly unlikely, of course, so I'm for adding this, IF it doesn't jeopardize our greater first need for a Fiction writer line.

David

Subject: Re: Hiring

This subject has come up because Literature had been proposing to support
Creative Writing at the top of the Department's needs for a tenure track
hire. Their second expressed need/desire would be an 18th century
person, on both sides of the Atlantic.

Are you all suggesting that you don't want to be involved in putting this
sort of idea forward?
