One take away I had from that meeting with Jim Oris was that an MFA lo res program might be seen as a revenue producing program to offset the "cost" of the departments MA and PHD programs. But that the revenue, flowing back to CAS (in the case of Eric's proposal, anyway) rather than directly to the department, it would be important to have some sort of understanding with the dean. Internally too, the more such a program is perceived to be tied to the creative writing program long term, the more likely it is to help justify the "cost" of our MA students funding into the future. Thus, I like cris's ideas about employing people with a connection to our department/program in any lo res program, if feasible.

Subject: low-res staffing thought
Hi all,
i was making dinner and thinking about the conundrum of how to staff the low-res MFA, at least partly. The fact that none of us (or few of us) have, as yet, expressed an interest in working as mentors - although there might also be other roles we might perform . .
we DO have fully qualified fiction and poetry ex-full professors. It's likely that they would not want the work, but they might??
we also DO have several talented and well-evaluated adjuncts, with MA credentials (Joe, Tom, Zack, Matt et al . . . yes i know it's a bunch of guys so with luck we could bring Helen Lanier and Sarah-Rose Nordgren and Ellen Elder into the picture) . . some of those poeple could be great for either the low-res MFA CW and / or the low-res MA Intermedia . . . this could be a great way to get them more meaningful remuneration??
partly, together with Brian, i witnessed the cogs whirring in Jim Oris's brain when he mentioned the low-res MFA at this evening's grad committee meeting.
as awkward as these low-res ma's might seem to us all right now we will do a great service to our existing MA students if we make serious efforts to open up at least one revenue-generating initiative . . and Eric M. is also do invaluable work developing and testing ways to teach writing and creativity online . .
just thinking out loud
