Today there were 2 least bitterns in the phragmites at the pool at the east end of the sandspit. One was seen very well in flight, the other was scoped by Bob Lane (thanks Bob!). Although migrant shorebirds were almost absent (only 2 least sandpipers), other birds made for a very interesting day. They included: 2 hooded mergansers, 2 common mergansers, double-crested cormorants, green heron, osprey, 2 bald eagles, common tern, belted kingfisher, e. kingbird, purple martin, and bank swallows. Craig Holt, Lowellville
