Hi everyone,

We went for a walk on Dike 14 this afternoon (I know, that’s not the
official name, for us it will always be Dike 14) and a visit to the 55th
Street marina.

Dike 14:

We didn’t have a lot of species, but quite a few individuals:

Red-breasted Merganser—50+

Horned Grebe (all molting into breeding plumage, and one entirely there)—15

Double-crested Cormorant—12

Bufflehead (in the turning basin)—14

Blue-winged teal (also in the basin)—1 male

American Coot (“)—4

Mallard (“)—1 male

Canada Goose—1 (!)

Common Loon (also in the basin)—2

Herring Gull—15

Ring-billed Gull—20

American Robin—30+

European Starling—30+

Common Grackle—8

Ruby-crowned Kinglet—3

Red-winged Blackbird 25+

Song Sparrow—a lifetime supply, at least 40 by count

Swamp Sparrow—1

Dark-eyed Junco—1

Great Blue Heron—1

and the last bird we saw: American Kestrel—1

55th Street marina:

Basically the same variety, with the addition of more geese and

Lesser Scaup—35+

Rock Pigeon—4

Killdeer—1

Best wishes,

Steve
