I was out working on the OBBA2 this morning in block 66B3SE and stopped
near some railroad tracks hoping to pick up some birds in the scrub
along the tracks and I heard an Upland Sandpiper. I was along State
Route 41 at Harold Road and near the DTI railroad tracks. This is about
a mile north of South Solon and 3 or 4 miles south of South Charleston.
I thought the sandpiper was in a no till soybean field west of Route 41
and listened to it for over 10 minutes without seeing it. Then I spotted
two of them flying over me to another soybean field east of Route 41 on
the north side of Harold Road. I moved to Harold Road and then saw three
of them fly and land in the field. Two of them seemed to be paired.
State Route 41 is a fairly busy road but Harold Road has little traffic.
A scope would probably be needed to get good looks at the birds. They
would probably be very difficult to find if they don't call. These
fields are really big.
