Linda and I took a walk to check activity at Areas M/N of the Hoover
Nature Preserve in Galena (Del. Co.) for new arrivals and her first visit of the
season to see the Prothonotary Warblers . The Prothonotaries didn’t
disappoint her as they put on their song and view revue. One came close up to
greet her and do a solo. Other species of interest included Northern Parula,
Yellow-throated and Yellow-rumped Warblers; Red-headed Woodpeckers drilling
out a new cavity; a Hooded Merganser hen and a Caspian Tern.
With the lack of measurable rain the water level is receding rapidly. The
bases of the nest boxes will soon become exposed and make access by
predators a danger. Time for a rain dance.
