Fellow owl lovers,

Went to check on "my" baby Great Horned Owls this evening. Only one
was partially visible in the nest. I decided to give them a hearing test
to determine that they were both still OK. One single owl call note, and
they both jumped up and looked in my direction. They are growing like
weeds.
As with any parent, surrogate or otherwise, I am concerned with the
expected low temps tomorrow night. Since these owls were born, it has not
once gone below 40. I occasionally have to remind myself that thousand of
years of evolution have the situation well under control, and they should
be just fine.
I now know they can hear. On the way back, I heard two Barred Owls
calling. I hear several of them, several times each day. I may have
located their nest, as well, but it's high in a spruce tree and very hard
to see.
