If you’re coming to get a look at the saw-whet, it’s in a pine tree next to
the parking lot and ranger station.
There’s a pine that has three trunks off the main one. Follow the middle
one up, it has a curve in it. At the curve, look a little to the right and
you’ll see the “blob” of the bird.
It’s a challenging look. Moving around the tree doesn’t really help. Best
shot to see it is about 5 feet to the west of the main trunk, looking
nearly straight up.
Your mobile device’s camera won’t get a good picture; you need a real
camera with a real lens. You know what I mean. (laughs)
