Hello All,

The Brooks Bird Club Foray will take place in the high mountain areas of Pocahontas County in West Virginia, June 3-10. The location is roughly four hours southeast of Pittsburgh, and over the years 180+ species have been seen there during 14 Forays, going back to 1948. Singing male census study plots have been done consistently in a few areas here for 70 years, every 5 years, so there are amazing live data sets from here.

There will be trips to fantastic and beautiful areas for the best in upland warblers, thrushes, rare plants and much more. Locations will include Spruce Knob (the highest point in WV), Gaudineer Knob (includes a virgin spruce tract and an upland swamp), Sinks of Gandy and more.

This is a most beautiful location. Five years ago, the camp we stay at had Blackburnian, Magnolia, Parula, Mourning and Black-throated Green Warblers on the small grounds, as well as Golden-crowned Kinglets and more. Red Crossbills are regularly seen at this Foray on the knobs. Highland orchids bloom this time of year, and there are many opportunities to learn plants and ferns while out birding. This is also a good place for amphibians, stargazing (due to this being a cellular dead zone - no towers everywhere), and moths.

For 6+ days of full meals & lodging, field trips, programs and camaraderie, the full time price is only $200. Daily rates are $35. Contact co-director Ryan Tomazin for more information at [log in to unmask], or go to www.brooksbirdclub.org/foray<http://www.brooksbirdclub.org/foray> for online registration forms. Register by May 20, 2018.

Cheers,

Ryan Tomazin - Brooks Bird Club
