The Columbus Audubon trip to Hoover Reservoir this morning attracted a few hardy souls, but the reservoir turned out to be completely frozen, save the spillway below the dam. That area, naturally, was jammed with waterfowl. Included in the pile were
Canada Geese - 750
Mallard - 160+
Black Duck - 10
Gadwall - 1
N. Shoveler - 22+
Am.Wigeon - 8
Bufflehead - 8
Com.Goldeneye - 16
Red-br.Merganser - 1
Hooded Merganser - 40

Gulls included 25 Ring-billed and 3 Herring. We weren't able to relocate the Thayer's Gull e-Birded by Paul Hurtado, but the gulls were moving in and out, so it may yet return to the spot. It is the only open water in the vicinity.

Afterwards we went over to nearby Inniswood MetroPark where woodpeckers have been putting on a show. We were able to find 5 Red-bellies, 8 Downies, 1 Hairy, 1 Red-headed, 3 Sapsuckers, and 1 Pileated. We also had a Sharp-shinned Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, 3 E. Bluebirds, Yellow-rumped Warbler, and Hermit Thrush.
