Hoover is finally showing some mudflats at its far northern end, in the area of the Walnut Creek delta into the reservoir, around the gated boardwalk in Galena. With the boardwalk closed for repairs, I birded the delta the old-school way: walking out the old Redbank Road from Galena. The view is not as good as that from the boardwalk, but did allow me to scan the mudflats east of the boardwalk. Among the birds there (and off the bridge going into Galena) were:

10 Great Blue Herons, 7 Great Egrets, 100 cormorants, 7 Green-winged Teal, 2 Osprey, 25+ Kildeer, 20 Lesser Yellowlegs, and 3 Greater Yellowlegs. There were a few small shorebirds, but they were too far for me to get a good look (I didn't have my scope). The mudflats will only grow over the next few weeks, and would make a good spot to check.

While walking out the old road, I ran into a mixed flock of migrants and residents which had N.Parula, Magnolia, Black-throated Green, and Blackpoll Warblers
