A short time ago I observed a first year male Blue Grosbeak at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park (Franklin County). It was dark brown with two buffy wing bars, a large beak and a blue head, larger than an Indigo Bunting. At first I thought it was a female, but when I got a better look I saw the blue head and realized it was a first year male.

The bird was some distance from the area where Blue Grosbeaks have been seen in recent years. It was near the intersection of the Terrace Trail and the Ohio to Erie Trail, a short distance from the old railroad bridge. At first it was at eye level about 20 feet away, then if flew a bit farther and lower, where I had a fantastic view of the bird.
