Today at a traditional spot - Soltis Rd. just east of its terminus at Rt.
88 (1 mile
sw of Parkman) - there was a flock of some 200 Snow Buntings and Horned
Larks - split fairly evenly between the 2 species. It took 2 tries and
lots of scoping, but I eventually found 2 Lapland Longspurs mixed in this
flock of winter-hardy birds.

All of the birds were feeding on corn stubble (no manured strips) on the
north side
of the road about 1/4 east of Rt. 88. The field rises slightly then drops
down, so
the birds can be hard to see below the crest of the rise.

On Hayes Rd. in Middlefield Twshp. - to expand on yesterday's report - at
14419 Hayes Rd. (east side of road - 1/4 m. south of Nauvoo Rd.) a manured
strip close
to the road held several dozen Snow Buntings and Horned Larks - and at
least 6-8 Lapland Longspurs. With a scope these birds were all very easy
to see clearly.

A light-morph Rough-legged Hawk was at the Geauga Cty. Airport.
