At Frohring, late this cold, windy afternoon, I saw well over a dozen
savannah sparrows, hunkering
down in the weedy edges of the marsh. Still c. snipe. Where did all
the tree swallows go?

Continuing home, I pulled over at the little marsh on Franklin to have
another look at the n. shovelers and
saw the first two n. rough winged swallows of the season.

At home, putting out some seed again, I saw my first vireo, a blue
headed, gleaning tiny
caterpillars from the tops of the beech trees.
