Dickcissels, Henslow's sparrows and grasshopper sparrows are singing on territory at the Seip Earthworks (Seip Mound) in Ross Co., west of Chillicothe.

None of these species are common in this region. If you know their calls, they can be fairly easily found from the trail that leads into the meadow west of the main burial mound, toward the Scioto River.

The Seip Earthworks site is part of Hopewell Culture National Historical Park (along with the Ohio Historical Society) and is open free to the public, dawn to dusk. It is located 2.5 miles west of Bainbridge on U.S. Rt. 50.

Bruce
