John Leon just called to tell me he and his son Evan found a male Garganey at Fernald Preserve this afternoon. They were still watching the bird as he spoke to me at 3:30 P.M. To my knowledge this is only the second record of this species in Ohio.

 

The Garganey is in the first pond on the right (east) side of the entrance driveway and easily viewed from the observation deck. Pictures of the bird have been taken. 

 

Fernald Preserve is located in northwestern Hamilton County and the entrance is located on Willey Road .4 tenths of a mile west of SR 128.
