I stopped by LaDue Reservoir (Geauga Co) a bit ago on my way back from Mentor after seeing reports from Bob Lane, John Petruzzi, and Jeff Harvey of good waterfowl numbers in Mahoning Co. over the past week. While I did not have big numbers, there were several rafts of waterfowl across the reservoir.
The largest number was Ruddy Ducks, followed by Mallards and Gadwall. Mixed in were Am Wigeon, GW Teal, Black Ducks, Lesser Scaup, and a couple of Horned Grebes.
Also seen were Sandhill Cranes, and a flock of 26 Dunlin. Bonaparte’s numbers were growing (30-ish) as well. A few Tree Swallows were over the water.
I imagine the front forecasted for later today should push more ducks our way. Tomorrow might be a good day to check that local patch for Scoters...
Happy birding!
