I made a spin through two sets of south Columbus quarries - Haul & Hart Rds. and the St.317 set - this morning looking for snow-driven waterbirds, but not finding much. Hart Rd is nearly completely frozen, while Haul Rd is open but had only a few birds: 5 Mute Swans, 4 Ring-necked Ducks, and 6 Bufflehead. The 317 quarries had large flocks of geese and Mallards, along with a handful of Black Ducks, but nothing else. Landbird action was very limited at both sites, as well as several parks en route, though I did find quite a few Red-tails perched out along the roads. The deep snow seems to have driven a lot of small birds further south or into more suburban environs.
