I used the wet, windy morning to survey the southern portions of Hoover Reservoir, looking for weather-driven strays or migrants.  Despite the blustery weather, or perhaps because of it, the lake was nearly empty, even in protected areas. Some of the wind-less shore areas, though, held good concentrations of landbirds, particularly the area below the dam and around Maxtown boat launch.  Notables included:

cormorants - a flock of 100 north of the Sunbury causeway was almost certainly a migrating flock.

Turkey Vultures - 14-15 scattered along the east shore could have been late migrants or possibly birds considering over-wintering

Woodpeckers - the woods below the dam had accumulated quite a few, including a Pileated and a sapsucker, along with the more expected Downies, Hairies, Red-bellies, and Flickers.

Robins, Waxwings - also concentrated in the windless area below the dam, which held 50+ Robins and 20+ waxwings.

E.Bluebirds - 2 were below the dam, while another 4 were at Maxtown, consorting with House Finches.  These two species often seem to flock together for much of the winter around here.

Warblers - still only Yellow-rumped, with 4+ at Maxtown and 6+ below the dam, mostly hanging around poison ivy berries.
