I got out and checked some places in eastern Mahoning Co. for waterfowl migrants yesterday 2/14.  I had a little success, mostly with puddle ducks.  While the Mahoning R. and Evans L. were largely ice-free, Pine L. and the pond behind Avion Banquet Center in Beaver Twp. were frozen with only a few open-water holes.  Here's the tally..........Mahoning R., Struthers to Lowellville: 4 Am. black ducks, 2 ring-necked ducks, 1 lesser scaup, 6 hooded mergansers, and 1 pied-billed grebe.  Evans L.: 3 gadwall, 2 Am. wigeon, 35 ring-necked ducks, 12 hooded mergansers, and 60 Am. coots.  Pine L.: 4 Am. black ducks, 2 n. shovelers, Am. coot, and belted kingfisher.  Beaver Twp.: 2 gadwall, 5 Am. wigeon, 15 Am. black ducks, and 16 n. pintails.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
