This morning (12/4) at approximately 7:20am I spotted a Great Egret while driving to work on OH-21 at the interchange of OH-21 and US-30. The bird was flying parallel to OH-21 headed south approximately 30ft above the ground. Though I first assumed it was a Great Blue Heron, once I drove alongside the bird, it was clearly all white with long black legs.
eBird shows a couple of sightings of Great Egret in various locations along the western Basin of Lake Erie in the past 30 days. There's another recent sighting just east of Mansfield, OH in the past few days. These are certainly late and somewhat unusual sightings.
