Hello Ohio Birders,

I took advantage of the springlike weather to check on our out-of-town property and returned via Ross and Pickaway Counties. In addition to the expected midwinter birds I saw:

One blue-phase Snow Goose amid the gazillions of Canada Geese at a farm pond on Spencer Rd. north of S.R. 180 west of Adelphi. (This spring-fed pond is the only waterfowl habitat for miles around and is worth checking if you're in the area. There is much turnover among species present and rarities have turned up over the years.)

Six (plus?) Snow Buntings were along Radcliff Rd. in the "Charlie's Pond" area south of Circleville.

One Rough-legged Hawk was hunting east of S.R. 104 about 1/2 mile north of Kellenberger Rd. (The general area was THE place to find wintering raptors 30-40 years ago and is still productive at times.)

Happy birding,

Dave Horn
Columbus
