Slow start after parking at Red Oak picnic area. Picked up Yellow Warbler (1) and RC Kinglets (5) at Ashton Pond before heading down Beech and Maple Loop trails towards the Nature Center. Remained quiet with mostly the usual suspects. Other notables included Yellow-rumped Warblers, Sapsucker, Phoebe, Brown Creeper, 1/2 dozen Towhees and countless WT Sparrows.
At 8:40 after connecting to the Buttonbush Trail (see red circle on trail map below) and just beyond the open field (L) and bench (R), a yellow flash approx 3’ off the ground caught my eye. Initial thoughts were Goldfinch, Yellow Warbler or even Prothonotory. Lengthy, close and full views confirmed white wing bars and thin black eye-line. Then came the insect-like buzzing song to seal the ID.
The bird remained active and vocal traversing the trail but always stayed 3-8’ off the ground and never left a 50’ circle. I hit the Nature Center and remainder of Buttonbush loop but was able to relocate it each time in the same area through 9:15.

A nice (early?) treat as I recalibrate my eyes, ears and neck for spring migration. Thank you.
