On Saturday, June 9, decided to look for the Upland Sandpiper on Stollecker rd in Jefferson, OH, Ashtabula County. Was reported earlier in the week that one was seen there.

Went with Liz McQuaid and Marty Reynard. How lucky were we that as soon as we turned down the gravel/sand rd. in the middle of farm country, we heard the sandpiper call. Scanning with scopes the recently plowed field Marty found the bird. We all got a quick view of it before it disappeared behind a large clump of turned up soil. Never saw it again. We did hear it call a few more time.

To be able to see this bird in farm fields all around and many places to hide among the clumps of turned up earth was amazing. Cannot believe we were able to find and see it. And also to hear it call.

other birds seen: Spotted Sandpiper, Savannah Sparrows, Boblinks, Eastern Meadowlarks

Don't know who report seeing it earlier, but thank you.

Jo Ann
