I hiked around these 2 MetroParks this morning, focusing on their wetlands, but also stopping at Bareis Preserve Which was between them.  Despite the nice weather, there wasn't much evidence of either waterfowl or landbird migration.  Ducks were surprisingly scarce, except for Mallards, while early landbirds like sparrows and horned larks were also rather uncommon.  Notables included:

CommonGoldeneye - 3 were flying around the wetlands at Slate Run, the only ducks there
Hooded Mergansers - a few were at all 3 stops
Sandhill Cranes - 2 were calling & flying around Ellis Pond at Pick Ponds early in the morning
Kestrels - 2 were at Bareis Preserve, another was near the Slate Run wetlands
Kildeer - widespread, with 1-2 at every stop
Pileated Woodpeckers - at least 2 were calling & drumming along the 5-Oaks Trail at Slate Run
Horned Larks - a few flyovers at both Pick Ponds and Slate Run
Brown Creeper - surprisingly scarce, with the only 1 being along the 5-Oaks trail at Slate Run
Sparrows - other than Songs, which were everywhere, other sparrows were very uncommon.  A few Trees were at Pick Ponds and Slate Run, and Bareis had 3 White-crowned Sparrows

Blackbirds - Redwings were widespread, but not common, with 1-3 at every stop.
