Late Monday afternoon, 18 February, a white-winged scoter was observed on the Kokosing River adjacent to the Brown Family Environmental Center, 9781 Laymon Road, Gambier (4 miles east of Mt. Vernon on SR 229). The scoter was in the company of a female goldeneye. Not far from downtown Mt. Vernon, there were 15 common goldeneye and 20 common merganser on the Kokosing River in the vicinity of Memorial Park, which is accessible from Mt. Vernon Avenue. These were mixed in with several hundred Canada geese and a few mallards here and there. Scot LongMt. Vernon
