My dad and I had a great day of birding in Cleveland this morning/afternoon. We had four target
birds we were hoping to get: Northern Saw-whet Owl, Eared Grebe, Snowy Owl, & Red Phalarope.
Our first stop was to Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve for saw-whet owl. We started looking in
the pines around the parking lot, but found nothing there, so we walked into the trails. Almost
immediately, my dad spotted one Northern Saw-whet Owl in a pine right next to the gate. We got
some great shots of him. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S15792402

Our second stop was Gordon Marina to hopefully find the Eared Grebe. I didn't find him at first, but
did see Greater Scaup and a variety of other ducks. However, a sad sight, I spotted a Bonaparte's
gull had its wing caught on some fishing line on the dock. It was flapping its wings, but couldn't
escape it. Right when we were about to leave though, I spotted the EARED GREBE close to the dock,
by itself. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S15792793

Next, we headed over to Burke Lakefront Airport where we viewed one Snowy Owl, thanks to help
of other birders. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S15793039

Our fourth stop was to Edgewater marina, where we and other birders present refound the RED
PHALAROPE in the marina near Bonies. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S15793341
Also present at Edgewater park was a juvenile Sharp-shinned Hawk.

Lastly, we quickly stopped at East 55th and spotted a Lesser Black-backed Gull.

We went 4/4 on our target birds and had a great time birding.

Good Birding,
Cole DiFabio
