I hadn't been to Evans L. for awhile, so I went there yesterday afternoon (10/16).  I was pleasantly surprised to find some migrant waterfowl.  The lake is still lower than usual, and there remains a nice big sand/gravel bar at the north end for gulls and others to roost on.  Bird highlights were:  6 gadwall, 15 Am. wigeon, n. shoveler, 35 green-winged teal, 20 ruddy ducks, 12 pied-billed grebes, 3 double-crested cormorants, great blue heron, an adult bald eagle, red-tailed hawk, 175 Am. coots, killdeers, lesser yellowlegs, 200 ring-billed gulls, herring gulls, yellow-rumped warbler, and white-crowned sparrow.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
