With today's and tomorrow's strong south winds and rain this weekend
knocking down migrants ( "no birds were harmed in the making of this email"
) Saturday has the potential to have some very good birding, between the
rains.
American golden-plovers have the potential for showing up commonly in
western Ohio this weekend. Also white pelicans, red-throated loons, scoters
and long-tailed ducks may be pushed to Ohio by the winds. Black-necked
stilts may show up at multiple Ohio locations this weekend. Shorebird
hotspots along Lake Erie ( yes, I know, there are fewer every year ) will
be prime, but anywhere there is shorebird habitat will be worth checking.
If you can, try to get out birding a half hour after the rains start
Saturday, or at sunrise if the rains arrive early.
