I couldn't manage a full day out, so stayed local. I had wanted to try
the highland gravel pits again. Henslows was there last year! Maybe
Monday.
No success with Alder. I haven't seen it reported on the Butler rba
lately, so maybe a migrant. Or birders not hitting here!
The trails are very flooded. I barely made it across that decking
to the rr tracks trail. I couldn't believe the stuff still singing at mid
day! Lots of YB Cuckoos and Cedar Waxwings. I know Waxwings
are a later migrant. I am assuming a lot of them were migrants.
Ellis Lake next - always worth a check. I just scanned from the
Firebird Lane parking area. Nothing different. I am still missing
Least Bittern for the big year. That seems like a good spot. Not
today though.
I think every bird I saw flycatching today was after a cicada!
Good birding all.
