There is certainly something going on with Pine Siskins this year. We
typically record a few birds passing through our yard in Van Wert
between November and February, staying only a few days at our feeders
and moving on. In 2007 & 2008 we recorded none at all.

In the past few weeks we have had between 6 to 12 at the feeders
daily. Yesterday we saw one collecting bits of nesting material from
the end of one of the cords holding up the feeder.

(We also are seeing way more Rose-breasted Grosbeaks than usual, and
they seem to be staying around longer.)
