Hi Guys,

I've had great success with making my own suet vs. the store-bought
variety. The only downside is that it costs more to make your own suet, and
the birds love it so much, you'll have to make a bunch of it if you don't
want to run out! The upside is the birds LOVE it! I've seen Red-belly,
Hairy, and Downy Woodpeckers, Titmice, Chickadees, WB & RB Nuthatches,
Carolina Wrens, even Cardinals, and Juncos eating it! A cake of store-bought
suet usually lasts for weeks, some brands they hardly touch it at all. Make
your own suet, and one cake won't even last one week, they love it so much!

I've been using the Virginia Bluebird Society recipe found on this webpage:

http://www.sialis.org/suet.htm

I haven't had any luck so far getting the Bluebirds to partake, but it's
just a matter of time. Make sure to read the instructions at the top of the
page and use only pure raw ingredients, nothing with baking soda, or salt or
preservatives, etc. A little sugar doesn't hurt, but don't overdo it!

Cheers,

Brian Hart
