Hi all,

A pair of Mississippi Kites has returned to Hide-A-Way Hills in Hocking County, where they have nested since at least 2010. Melissa Krygier, a part-time resident of HAH, sent along two fabulous images of the kites – one of the male passing an insect to the female; the other of the pair copulating. I’ve posted these on my blog, should you be interested: http://jimmccormac.blogspot.com/

HAH is a gated community and not open to nonresidents. However, we hope to have another “Kite Day” in late July/early August, as has been done the past two years. My blog post has a link to last year’s Kite Day if you wish to see what that’s all about. Bulletins will be forthcoming about these kites, and Kite Day 2012.

Anyone birding in the Clear Creek Valley region of the Hocking Hills, or anywhere in Hocking or Athens counties, should keep a watchful eye for Mississippi Kites. There are likely other nesters in the area.

Jim
