We conducted the 18th Carey Christmas Count today. Here are some of the
highlights:

- Black ducks - on highway pond outside of Upper Sandusky
- Eastern meadowlark (11!) - some near Springville Marsh
- Yellow-rumped warbler - my house
- Lapland longspur, Snow bunting - north of Kirby by the new 30 overpass.
Tom also obtained a road kill Lapland destined for the Cleveland Museum I
assume.
- Rough-legged hawk - 2 locations.
- Merlin - Upper Resevoir.
- Northern Shoveler - Upper Resevoir.
- Virginia rail - Springville Marsh
- Redhead, Gadwall, and Trumpeter Swan - Upper Resevoir.

Looks like we should break 60 species. Not our worst number, but down
significantly from last years 73. Still have some groups to report. Happy
New Year to all! Hope your year list is off to a great start.
